by Toni Burgering, Rotterdam, NL

This mural stands on the facade of the former National Education Museum (located here near the Boterslote from 1989 to 2012). Designed by the artist Toni Burgering as an ode to the writer Bob den Uyl, some call the mural “a curiosity.” Yet, publicity also includes an acknowledgment that it fits with the function of the building. Besides being once a museum of education, the building housed the public library and, today, is part of Erasmus University College. The report card enumerates recordkeeping and communication by teachers, administrators, and parents. Such a report could be a mark of hope for the future and actual and potential failures, though here it was meant to suggest the more felicitous path of writer den Uyl.
