ARCHIVING=XHIBITING, GOING OFF-SCRIPT IN ART ARCHIVES

A recent symposium that explored art in archives, art centered on archival work, as well as the archiving of art, was held in Barcelona this March, 2023. The symposium was entitled ARCHIVING=XHIBITING, GOING OFF-SCRIPT IN ART ARCHIVES.

NOTE about this title: The insertion of the equal sign you will need to correct in your mind to include three lines, because that indeed is included in the complete and full title! I cannot seem to make WordPress enter a three lined equal sign, though Microsoft Word inserts it in my original document and I have tried to paste that in. An equal sign with three lines means that something is identical or similar to something but not necessarily equal. Thus, a triple equals sign means equivalent, or likened to, something of interest to careful readers on art and archives

Eric Ketelaar’s review of this very informative and enlivening event can be found here.

And, one of the many talks of interest can be found already on Utube, itself one of the miracles of archival access, and in a way, vision. This is the talk by José Luís Bonal, Professor in the Faculty of Documentation and Communication Sciences, Universidad de Extremadura, on  El documento a través del arte: un recorrido por las representaciones de los documentos de archivo en las obras de la National Gallery (The document through art: a tour of the representations of archive documents in the works of the National Gallery (UK)).

The overall conference program can be found here. More of the talks should soon be on UTUBE and some of the talks will be featured in a forthcoming publication.
